Hide Affiliate Links by Using Gocodes Plugin

December 12, 2010 by Saqib 1 Comment

If you are using WordPress and want to hide affiliate links or want to redirect one URL to another, then this plugin can help you very much. Infact, hiding affiliate links is very easy if you are using this plugin.

Moreover the links cloaked by Gocodes looks pretty neat, and its you that decide the structure of the link. Plus you can also add nofollow tag. This is important so that those affiliate links are not given importance and not ranked by Google. It’s a good idea to keep affiliate links as “nofollow” always. In this tutorial we’ll learn how to use this plugin and hide or redirect links.

Installing Gocodes is very simple, it’s just like installing any other plugin. You can install it by clicking on Add New from Plugins section and then searching. Or you can also download Gocodes plugin from below link and then upload it to wp-content/plugins

Download Gocodes Plugin from here

After installing, let’s first do the settings. From the settings tab, click on Gocodes. In the URL trigger, you can change that trigger. By default it uses go , but if you want to change it to anything else, then you can. E.g. the default URL will be http://domainname.com/go/affiliate and you can change it to something like

http://domainname.com/recommends/affiliate

And also checkmark that “nofollow” gocodes and click on “Save settings”. So the settings are done, now let’s add an affiliate link.

From Tools, click on “Gocodes“. Enter the redirection key and target URL. Also you can checkmark that “count hits” box to count the hits and know how many times a certain link is clicked. Finally click on “Add Redirect“.

There are also other ways to hide links, like using a URL shortening service like bit.ly, editing .htaccess or a PHP script. But why delve into all this and do it manually, when you can have so many benefits of using a WordPress plugin.
