Microsoft has now rebranded and launched SkyDrive as OneDrive. The company, apart from renaming, also announced some new features on this occasion. For example, users will now have the ability to share and view videos just as easily as photos, automatic camera backup option for Android, iOS and Windows Phone and real-time co-authoring when using Office Web Apps, which is a part of OneDrive.
Usually, OneDrive (previously SkyDrive) offers 7GB of storage space to its users, whereas Dropbox offers only 2GB of free space. Till now, there was no way to get extra free storage space on OneDrive, but not anymore. Users of OneDrive can now perform some additional tasks to get up to 8GB of extra storage space. Here’s how it works.
Tips to get free space on OneDrive
Currently, there are three ways to earn free extra storage space on OneDrive. Let’s take a detailed look at all these three methods.
Tip #1:
You can earn 3GB of space just by using the camera backup feature in the new OneDrive app on Android, iOS and on Windows Phone. This feature basically means that the OneDrive app will automatically backup photos from your device’s camera. If you opt to use this feature, then you can get a free 3GB bonus space.
Tip #2:
Just like Dropbox, you can refer OneDrive to a friend and both of you will get a cool 500MB of extra space. You can refer up to 10 friends and get 5GB more space using this method.
Tip #3:
You can also get extra storage space as part of your Office 365 subscription. You can get space of 20GB per person, or up to 100GB per household.
Bonus tip:
As a time limited offer, and to celebrate the launch of OneDrive, Microsoft is giving away 100GB of free storage space for one year to 100,000 people. To enter in this giveaway, you’ll need to follow OneDrive’s official Twitter account, and then answer their puzzle.
So go ahead and enjoy the free space earned on OneDrive by using the above methods. If you’ve got any other tips, then don’t forget to share it in the comments below.
