Now that Nokia has entered the game to save Windows Phone 7, the new Nokia Lumia is the talk of the town. The phone definitely stands out and outshines other Windows phones. Metro Home is a portable application for Windows OS that comes with Windows Phone 7 Metro user interface, which displays current date, time, weather forecast upto 4 days and a picture slideshow.

Bring Windows Phone 7 Metro UI Style to Desktop

The good thing is that this is a portable app. No need to follow that standard installation procedure. After downloading the zip, run the “MetroHome” executable and you will see that the widget appears on the desktop. Changing the position of the widget is very easy, just drag the widget at your desired area. The widget also automatically animates, which looks really cool.

You won’t need to configure date and time. But for weather forecast, you’ll need to enter the current location by right clicking on the gadget. There are also additional advanced options for widget settings, set this widget on top (widget defines this term as top most), pin to a particular position on the desktop, change the size of the widget, change opacity and settings for Metro Home. Opacity settings are really useful for those who want to set opacity of Metro Home widget.

Click on “Widget settings” to change weather provider. By default, MSN is used but it can be changed to Foreca, FreeMeteo and Weather Channel. Temperature unit can be changed, a user can select Fahrenheit or Celsius. The time format helps in changing time format (useful for viewing time in the widget) from 12 Hour or 24 Hour format. Those who don’t need picture slideshow can uncheck the slideshow option from here. But for those, who need slideshow can adjust slideshow interval time limit, and images should be placed in “Pictures” folder.

The “Metro Home settings” helps in enabling windows Aero Glass view. You can also check mark the option to “Auto-start with Windows” and check for updates at startup.

Metro Home requires a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit operation systems) and Microsoft.NET Framework 4. Internet connection is also required to check for weather updates.
