Windows 7 will come in six versions

March 7, 2009 by Saqib 6 Comments

Yes, this is now official that Windows 7 will come in six different versions.  The following are names of different versions:

Windows 7 Starter

Windows 7 Home Basic

Windows 7Home Premium

Windows 7 Enterprise

Windows 7 Professional

Windows 7 Ultimate

Only this much :) The focus would be primarily on Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional. Windows 7 Starter will be a limited functionality version of this OS and would be only available as a pre-install by OEM’s. Starter edition will be only available in developing countries.

Microsoft will help XP users to migrate to Windows 7 by selling upgrade media, but they should do a clean install of Windows 7. It seems that Microsoft’s strategy is a version for every one. A version to suit everyone. Prices are not out yet, lets see how much bucks we’ll spend on it :)

Yes, foolish of MS, what if the starter version is the full version with most things disabled, if somehow we could then enable everything, then that would be Microsoft’s DOOM!!!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Windows 7. Haven’t had the chance to test out the beta yet however, but will soon enough. But, 6 versions? Jeez, seems like yet another Microsoft oversight. What’s wrong with 1 version – with the option to streamline it on slower systems? This has always been a bit ridiculous – different versions of the same OS.

Nyway, luv the blog and will subscribe. Stop by mine when you have a chance! Cheers :)

Windows Starter is aimed at Nettops and Netbooks, and not the other normal desktops or laptops.

The most interesting would be the “Hope Premium” no doubt, and hopefully the “Ultimate” Edition will be lesser than Rs. 14,999!
