Explained: Wi-Fi Hotspot Feature in Mobile Phones

Wi-Fi hotspot allows you to share internet connection between various Wi-Fi enabled devices. These days, there are many gadgets that are Wi-Fi enabled. Therefore there is no need to get an individual internet connection for each of such gadgets. Instead, use the Wi-Fi hotspot feature available in mobile phone and create a hotspot which can be shared between all devices.

Basically this means that your phone functions like a Wi-Fi router. A Wi-Fi router is a device used to share internet connection between different wired and wireless devices. Wireless devices are those devices that have Wi-Fi for example, mobile phones, laptops, iPod Touch, iPad, etc.

One minus point of using this Wi-Fi hotspot is that since this is a shared internet connection, the internet speed will be divided between all the devices. So if one device is downloading a file, then all other devices will get slow internet speed.

Now you may be wondering from where would be this hotspot would be created from? Wi-Fi hotspot shares your phone’s mobile data connection via USB or as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Your phone’s mobile data connection is used and then shared with other devices.

Those who are using 2G will experience very slow internet speeds. Because of such low speeds, those users who are using internet on their devices will also experience pathetic internet speed. Such speed is not enough for browsing properly, forget about downloading.

And if you have 3G, then you will be able to take advantage of Wi-Fi hotspot. 3G claims to give speed of 21.6 Mbps, but the problem with 3G is that 3G internet plans are very costly.

Hope this clears the air about mobile Wi-Fi hotspot feature.
