The iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak brings with it many new possibilities. Those iPhone 5 and other 6.x device owners who were eagerly waiting to free their device can finally jailbreak their device. Thanks to the Evad3rs jailbreak team and their new tool named as Evasi0n (read it as evasion); the process of jailbreaking has become really easy. All you need to do is to just hit a single button and you’re done.
The good thing is that this is an untethered jailbreak which means there’s no need to connect the device with the computer during the reboot. This is the type of jailbreak that everyone was waiting for – and it has finally arrived. Follow the below simple step by step guide to jailbreak your iOS device on iOS 6 – 6.1 fully untethered.
Evasi0n is compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 6.0 through 6.1. Apple TV 3 is not supported at the moment.
Requirements:
- A computer running at least Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.5 or Linux (x32 / x64)
- An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 6.0 through 6.1
- A USB cable to connect your device to the computer
How to Jailbreak iOS 6.1
Before we start the actual jailbreak process, we highly recommend you to backup your device using either iTunes or iCloud. Backing up might take a few extra minutes but it’s worth it.
Just in case if you have already tethered jailbreak iOS 6.1, then you don’t need to follow this tutorial. Simply convert your tethered jailbreak into untethered by installing “evasi0n 6.x Untether” from Cydia.
With the above points in mind, let’s start jailbreaking iOS 6.1.
Step 1: Download Evasi0n jailbreak for your Windows, Mac or Linux operating system from here.
Step 2: If you are on a lower firmware than iOS 6.1 (for example on iOS 5.1.1 or 6.0), then we highly recommend you to update your phone to iOS 6.1 by using iTunes, and not by OTA (Over The Air) method.
Step 3: Once you update the OS, close iTunes. Also make sure that you don’t have any passcode set on your device. If you have enabled passcode, then disable it from Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Off.
Step 4: Launch Evasi0n jailbreak tool from your computer.
Step 5: Connect the iOS device to your computer via the cable and then this tool will recognize your device.
Step 6: Click on the “Jailbreak” button and take a brief break. Let this tool work its magic. During this process, do not touch your device or the computer. You’ll be able to see different messages such as receiving information, waiting for reboot, do not touch your device, etc.
Step 7: When the process is finished, you’ll be able to see a new “Jailbreak” app on your iDevice. Tap to launch this app. Evasi0n will run through some more messages and will continue to jailbreak the device.
Step 8: Your device will reboot several times and the Evasi0n tool on your computer will notify “Jailbreak complete.” Once this is done, you will be able to see the Cydia icon on your home screen.
Now you can launch the Cydia app and then configure it. You’ll be asked if you are a user, developer or hacker. Select the appropriate option, choose repository and you’re done.
Since this is a new release, the servers of Cydia might take more time than the usual required. There might be some delays but this is normal during a new jailbreak release.
Enjoy your new Apple-limitations free iOS device.
