You may wish to arrange start menu by placing most used icons/programs at the top of the menu. But the problem is by default, the Start menu will automatically arrange all the installed programs in alphabetical order. Even drag and drop method won’t work with the default settings. But here’s a way to stop the Start menu from automatically arranging programs in alphabetical order.
Disable Alphabetic Sorting Of Start Menu Programs
- Right click on the Start orb and click on Properties.
- Properties dialog box will open. Click on “Customize” button from the “start menu” tab.
- This should open the customize the start menu options box. Scroll down and uncheck the option “Sort all programs menu by name“. Click on OK to save the settings.
That’s all you need to do. Now you can arrange the Start menu programs as per your wish. Just drag and drop the programs wherever you wish to place it.
In this image, you can see that I have arranged programs by first placing uTorrent then Firefox and so on. Go ahead and try it out. Take control over your Windows Start menu with this small trick.
