While trying to connect to a Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 server, using remote desktop, you may get this error: “The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the system administrator“. This issue can be caused by an expired Terminal services license or for some other reason.
Here is the solution for this problem:
- Windows XP users, click on Start > Run and type regedit and press Enter.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, click on start and directly type regedit - Navigate (Expand) to the following registry key (Please take utmost care here, as the changes made cannot be undone, until and unless you have taken a backup of registry files) :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – Software – Microsoft – MSLicensingRight click on MSLicensing folder and click on Delete. The problem should now be solved.
Now restart the computer and try again to connect to the remote server. If you again get an error such as “The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol”, then don’t worry, here’s the solution again.
Right click the “Remote Desktop Connection” icon and click on “Run as administrator”. That’s it. The issue should now be fixed.
