Gmail’s new look is minimalist and the focus is on getting the job done, rather than design and other elements. Whenever something new comes up, it takes time for people to accept it and the same thing has happened with Gmail. Not everyone likes the new look of Gmail. It would have been great if Gmail would have provided an option to switch between old and new look. Since there is no such option, you can follow below tutorial to switch back to old Gmail look.
How to Switch to Old Gmail Look
This method does not involve installing any extensions or addons. In fact, this is by far the easiest method to revert back to old look of Gmail.
Step 1:
You need to disable Javascript from browser. Firefox users can do this from Tools > Options > Content and uncheck Enable JavaScript. (refer screenshot below)
If you are Google Chrome user, then you can disable Javascript from:
- Clicking on wrench icon from top right
- Click on “Under the Hood” from left sidebar
- Select Do not allow any site to run JavaScript.
Step 2:
Now login to Gmail. You will see a notification on screen that says that you have disabled Javascript on the browser and you can enable Javascript or proceed forward with HTML view. Click on HTML view.
Step 3:
You will be logged in and then you will see a message in yellow bar. Click on Set basic HTML as default view.
Once you do this, you will get a message that says “Your preferences have been saved”.
Now you can re-enable Javascript from the browser. Don’t worry, Gmail will now permanently display old look/interface even after enabling Javascript.
Just in case if you want to get back Gmail’s new look, click on Standard view from top bar.
This is the quickest and simplest way to get back the old look as no extensions, plugins or addons are required.
