From Power Options in Control Panel, Windows users can configure PC’s power settings. From here they can configure settings to turn OFF the computer to sleep and turn OFF the display in how many minutes. Further advanced options can also be configured about hard disk, USB settings, power buttons, etc. Power savings feature works great but there is one feature that user’s are demanding and that is to prevent the PC from automatically going to power saving mode temporarily.
Recently I faced a problem in downloading a torrent. During the download process, the computer automatically goes to sleep mode and therefore the download process is also interrupted. So what’s the solution for this problem?
It can be said that Windows power plans are too strict. If you want to block/stop certain things from happening, then there’s no such option.
If a user wants to prevent the computer from going into power saving mode permanently then he/she can do this by selecting “Never” from “Put the computer to sleep”. But what if a user doesn’t want to do this permanently? Fortunately there is a solution for this.
Sleep Preventer is a lightweight tool to prevent your computer from going to sleep, hibernate, dim the display or start the screensaver. This is a portable program. Upon starting this program for the first time, you are presented with a basic interface from where you can configure this application.
After starting the program, a user just needs to click on “Prevent sleep” button to block the PC from going into sleep. You can also change the timer from infinite to a time between 5 minutes and 2 hours instead. The program also has an option to allow display to go to sleep. This will allow only the display to enter the sleep mode.
From the system tray icon, a user can right-click on this programs icon and Toggle On/Off this program.
