October 5, 2011 by Saqib Leave a Comment

After months of rumors and talks about the next generation of iPhone, whether it will be iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, but now it’s official that iPhone 4S is the next shiny gadget for Apple fans. Here is everything you wanted to know about the new iPhone 4S – features, availability and pricing.

This official news comes from Apple’s media event “Let’s Talk iPhone”, that was held yesterday on their campus in Cupertino, CA. This was the first event where the keynote was given by CEO Tim Cook, instead of Steve Jobs, who retired some time ago.

iPhone 4S

So to sum it up, iPhone 4S is an iPhone 4, with dual core Apple A5 processor, 8 megapixel camera (records video at Full HD 1080p) and iOS 5. Basically it can be said that you get the same looks but with improved features. The design is the same as last year’s iPhone and some of you may be disappointed by this. But do you really think we need a new design for iPhone? The timeless design looks great today also.

iPhone 4S features

The phone adopts A5 ARM CPU that’s already powering the iPad 2. The GPU is also upgraded to a dual core chip that, according to Apple will deliver up to seven times the performance of previous generation graphics processor. Now gamers, there is definitely something to rejoice. But this does not mean that games will run seven times more quickly. Only the newer games, like Epic’s newly announced Infinity Blade sequel, will use the extra GPU power to render those awesome graphical effects. The time required to switch between apps is also greatly reduced.

iPhone 4S features

According to apple, battery life of this new iPhone will be 8 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of Wi-Fi browsing or 10 hours of video.

Apple has made the new iPhone 4S as worldphone – that means the new chipset will allow the phone to function on both GSM and CDMA networks. Now there’s no need to carry two phones. The phone uses a dual-antenna design to improve call stability.

Now coming to the camera part. The iPhone 4S camera has backlight-illuminated sensor that captures 73 percent more light than the old iPhone. This will greatly help in low-light conditions. Recording videos will be much better, as the videos are recorded at Full HD 1080p with real time temporal noise reduction and real time video image stabilization. It seems that Apple will definitely use this feature for marketing purpose because now there is no need to carry a camera with you.

Coming to connectivity part. All the usual features are included like WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. The new iPhone will support HSDPA network which offers 4G-like speeds up to 14.4mbps.

How can we forget the most exciting feature of iPhone 4S. It comes with enhanced speech recognition feature called Siri. Now you can use your voice to send messages, place phone calls, schedule meetings, and more. Just think about any possibility. Siri is smart, it can understand what you say. Just speak as you normally do, there’s no need to speak in any funky accents. Siri can be your smart new personal assistant, because it can do just everything. It will initially come with support for English, German and French and support for more languages will be added later on.

iPhone 4S Pricing

The iPhone 4S comes in two colors: black and white in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage capacities. The 16GB model costs $199, 32GB costs $299 and the 32GB model costs a whopping $399.

The iPhone 4 price have also gone down to $99, while the iPhone 3GS is sticking around at the bargain price of $0, with contract.
