The Indian Railways has launched a new portal which shows the current geographical location of trains on Google Map. This new portal is named as RailRadar and it is a part of Train Inquiry website of Indian Railways.
After launching the website, you can drag the map to any location or zoom-in to any city and location on the map. The left sidebar can also be used to search by any particular train number or train name. Click on “Legends” to know about the legends used in the map.
If you see the map, then the blue markers indicate trains running on time and red markers indicate train running late. Click on a particular train from the map and it would display the exact route of the train, with stops, current location, last updated and next halt.
The map refreshes every 5 minutes and therefore we can say that the information on location and running status of trains is not exactly real time but it should give you a fair idea about trains and their time.
RailRadar is very useful as it shows very detailed information about each train. The map adds more convenience for the user as it’s very easy to navigate. Finally, this is a good initiative taken by Indian Railways, now only the online train booking facility could improve and let users book tickets without hassle.
