Google Explains How to Install Chrome and Search on Windows 8

October 27, 2012 by Saqib Leave a Comment

As we know, Windows 8 is launched and is officially available worldwide. Microsoft has bundled two of its products – Bing and Internet Explorer 10 in this new operating system. While there is no problem with these two products, many of you would prefer to use Google’s product instead. Google has uploaded a video which shows how users can get Google Search and Google Chrome browser in Windows 8.

This move of Google is not surprising at all. The Mountain View company would like to grab this opportunity to increase penetration of their products into Microsoft’s latest operating system.

Here is the video by Google that explains how you can easily add Google Search and Chrome browser app to Windows 8.

Google calls it as “Get your Google Back”. As you can see in the video above, you need to open your browser and head over to getyourgoogleback.com. Once there, hit the “Get the Google Search app” button and then click on the “Install” button to install this app. Now you can drag and drop the Google shortcut to your Start Screen so that it can be accessed quickly. You need to follow the same procedure to install Google Chrome browser.

The Google Search app for Windows 8 is available from quite some time and it offers many more features than just the standard Google search. It is a gateway to all other Google applications and can be very helpful if you use Google’s applications such as Gmail, News, Maps, Google+, Drive, Reader, YouTube, Translate, etc. The best part is that it won’t launch the web version of each service in the browser, instead it opens in the Search app itself. All these Google’s services are optimized for Windows 8 and thus there are touch customizations. If you feel that typing is very traditional, then it also includes voice search. Talking about the Google Chrome browser, then it is also optimized for touchscreens and comes with larger buttons. For now, the Windows Store is not easily searchable and therefore you need to install Chrome by following the video above.

The Search and Chrome app for Windows 8 are really very handy and adds a more convenient way to access Google’s various services. If you are on Windows 8, then there is no reason why you should not get it.
