To know about this week’s free app, you just need to open the App Store app and then navigate to the “Featured” page. There you can see the label which reads “App of the Week”. Tap on it to download the app.
But if you’re the one who does not check the App Store regularly, then you can miss the free App of the Week Deal.
Who would like to miss this freebie and therefore here’s an easy solution using which you can automatically get notified about the free App of the Week with the help of an email. Read on to know how this can be done.
For this purpose, we’ll be using IFTTT (short for If This Then That), a simple tool that can be used to automate tasks online. This web app can do variety of tasks which is referred to as “recipes”. Users can create different recipes as per their wish but there are also number of ready made recipes that are very useful.
How to Know About the Free App of the Week on AppStore
Step 1:
Head over to IFTTT and sign-up by clicking on the “Join IFTTT” button. If you’re already signed-up, then simply login.
Step 2:
Now that you are signed-up, it’s time to fire up the recipe. Click here to open the recipe. Basically this recipe will send you an email whenever Apple posts details on free App of the Week on its Facebook page.
As per this IFTTT recipe, whenever a new feed item from App Store’s Facebook account matches the keyword “App of the Week”, an email is triggered to the user.
Step 3: Scroll down and click on the “Use Recipe” button to use this recipe. If you prefer, then you can always edit this recipe and change the email’s subject and body.
Alternatively, you can also create a new recipe from scratch but the trigger will always the same. You should always use: http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?format=atom10&id=286893159420 as the feed URL, and the trigger should be “New feed item matches” criteria. You can then specify a different alert method if you prefer.
That’s it, your recipe is now turned ON. You will now get an email alert whenever App Store posts something new about App of the Week.
You can always stop/turn OFF this recipe from “My Recipes” section and clicking on the OFF button or Delete Recipe button.
Another solution is that you can check the official AppStore Twitter handle manually. But why do this task manually when we can automate it by using If This Then That. Go ahead and follow this procedure to never miss a free app again.
