Facebook, a social networking site that we all love can be addictive. It’s a well know fact that it can be addictive and can decrease our work productivity. Or there can be any other personal reason behind deleting facebook account. But there are two ways to deal with this situation. First one is to “Deactivate your account” and second one is to permanently delete your account. The first method is suitable in most situations and the reason behind this is that your account is just temporarily deactivated and later on, can be reactivated, as per your wish.
Difference between deactivating and deleting facebook account
Deactivating your account means:
- Your profile and all information associated with it disappears from the Facebook service immediately.
- Your profile information (friends, interests, photos, etc.) is saved.
- People on Facebook will not be able to search for you or view any of your information.
- If you choose to reactivate your account, everything will look just the way it did when you left.
And now let’s see what deleting facebook account means:
- You will not be able to regain access to your account again.
- All personally identifiable information associated with it is removed from facebook database.
- No turning back. An account once deleted cannot be recovered.
How To Deactivate Facebook Account
So now that we are clear with the funda, let’s see how to deactivate facebook account. Login to your account and click on the dropdown box behind “Home” and click on Account Settings.
Now from the Account Settings page, click on Security. Notice the “Deactivate your account” link. Click on it.
Another page will open and then you will be asked the reason for deactivation. Select the reason and click on Confirm. That’s done. Now you are temporarily invisible from facebook.
Permanently Delete Facebook Account
Permanent, that means you won’t be able to recover your account, your friends gone, contacts, games, groups, apps, pages, everything will just vanish in the air. So if you’re doing this really, then think twice before following this method. Here’s a warning that facebook will give you when deleting an account

To stay on the safer side, it’s best to deactivate account. So that later on, when you feel that now it’s the right time to take the plunge again, you don’t need to start over again and everything will be just as it is when you left. First decide and then move forward.
