April 20, 2012 by Saqib Leave a Comment

Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) is a protocol that is used in synchronization of email, contacts, calendar, tasks and notes from a messaging server (like Gmail, Hotmail, etc) to a mobile device. This is a superb way to always stay in touch as it will constantly sync with the server to fetch the latest emails. In this tutorial, you will learn how to setup and configure Exchange ActiveSync on Android, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Bada phones for Hotmail, Gmail and Google Apps account.

If you have got a new Bada OS device (like Samsung Wave), then manually entering all your email, contacts and calendar events can be a pain. Google has a solution called “Google Sync” but it is not yet supported by Bada devices. Thankfully we can achieve doing this with the help of Exchange ActiveSync.

Here’s the step-by-step process to use Exchange ActiveSync on Bada, Android and iOS devices:

Configure Exchange ActiveSync For Hotmail, Gmail And Google Apps

The screenshots used in this tutorial are taken from Bada OS phone. But you can find similar settings on Android and iOS devices also.

Step1:
Access the “email” application from menu and tap on “New”. Tap on “Exchange ActiveSync”.

iOS users can do this from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange.

Step2:
Enter your full email address in both Email and Username fields. Enter a password and in the next screen, enter “server URL” as m.google.com for those who are configuring Gmail and Google Apps account. If you are configuring a Hotmail account, then enter m.hotmail.com as server URL Leave the “domain” field as blank. And lastly, enable SSL.

Step3:
This is how the final settings will look like (for Google Apps users). Here are the settings at glance:

  • Server / URL: m.hotmail.com (for Hotmail) and m.google.com (for Gmail and Google Apps).
  • Username: Enter full email address.
  • Domain: Leave this as blank.
  • SSL: Enable SSL.

That’s all you need to do. The phone will now start syncing data instantly. This process will take few minutes to complete depending on emails, contacts, calendars and tasks you have in your account.

This is a life saver for those who always want to stay synced with latest emails and contact information. Try it out, the process is really easy and simple.
