WhatsApp will now allow you to add bold, italics and strikethrough text to your message. These new formatting options are aimed to make conversations more interesting. Instead of the boring normal text, you will soon be able to use bold, italics and strikethrough in your WhatsApp messages. In this short tutorial, you will learn exactly how to use the new formatting features of adding bold, italics and strikethrough in WhatsApp.
There are no separate buttons to add such bold, italics and strikethrough effects to text, but to do this, you need to remember this below trick.
For Bold
To add bold text to a WhatsApp message, just add an asterisk (*) before and after the specifics words. For example: *Hey buddy*
For Italics
To italicise text, just add an underscore (_) before and after the specifics words. For example: _Hey buddy_
For Strikethrough
To strikethrough something, add a tilde (~) before and after the specifics words. For example: ~Hey buddy~
Also you can combine different formatting together by adding relevant symbols to your message. For example, _*Hey, I am bold italics*_
Note that apart from the app based version of WhatsApp, you can add such formatting to messages in the web based version also. However, the formatting will only show up on the mobile app.
WhatsApp believes in keeping things simple and that’s why you won’t be able to find many major changes to the app. The last important feature that WhatsApp added was the ability to make and receive voice calls. Some other apps have gone to the length of adding stickers, games, bots and much more, but not WhatsApp.
To use this new text formatting feature, you need to be using the latest version of WhatsApp, which is v2.12.535 and above. If the name of the recipient is displayed in bold, then it means that the user is on the latest version and that user will be able to see text formatting.
So if you are on the latest version, then try out this new text formatting feature of WhatsApp.
