How to Directly Open Google Chrome Incognito Window

May 21, 2011 by Saqib Leave a Comment

Google Chrome has become very popular in this short span of time. One of the known functionalities of Google Chrome is its incognito mode. Through incognito, one can stealthily surf the web, without leaving any trace. In this short tutorial, we will learn how to directly open Incognito window in Chrome.

According to Google

Pages you view in this window won’t appear in your browser history or search history, and they won’t leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved, however.

This is really a cool feature of Chrome. Surf the web, without any history, cookies or temporary files. In this mode, browsing history and download history won’t be recorded, and any cookies stored will be deleted as soon as you close the browser. To launch this incognito mode, just press Ctrl + Shift + N (after opening Chrome). However, there is one functionality still missing and that is to start incognito mode by default.

How to directly open Incognito Window

  1. Firstly, you will need to place the Google Chrome shortcut on Desktop or any other place you want
  2. Right click on that shortcut and click on Properties.
  3. In the target field, enter –incognito at the end of the path. (Please note that this is a double dash and not a single dash, and don’t insert any space there)

Now click on ok. Now whenever you open Chrome from that shortcut, Incognito mode will open by default. This mode is very useful when you are surfing in public places. Now after the surfing session, you won’t need to clear the cookies or delete browsing history.

Tip: Through this, we can also open two different browsing sessions for the same website. One through the normal chrome window and one through incognito window. E.g. if you have two Google account, then both can be opened altogether.
