Google announces new operating system named “Google Chrome”

July 10, 2009 by Saqib 3 Comments

Beware all, a new operating system player will be in the market in a few months. And this time, it is Google. Google’s always got something new to innovate and tackle his competitors.

Google Chrome will be an open source operating system. Main three features would be simplicity, speed and security. I like the speed thing here. Mostly it will be targeted to netbooks. Ofcourse it will be made compatible with other various hardware’s also.

Google Chrome is a new project, which is apart from Android. Android was basically designed to run on a variety of devices. And Chrome would be targeted to people who want to spend their time more on the internet and consume less power. Now you can say, these two are the basic requirements for a netbook.

“We hear a lot from our users and their message is clear — computers need to get better,” wrote Sundar Pichai, Google’s vice president of product management and Linus Upson, Google’s engineering director.

It will be running a windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.Currently Google is working with many OEM’s. Chrome will be available for consumers in second half of 2010.  Well, if it is a  Google product, then its worth the hype and wait, what say?

Right. Open source means free. Also you must have heared about FOSS, that means “Free and open source software”.
