Many of you have faced problem of PC running too slow nowadays. Earlier it was running with good speeds but it is slow nowadays. Well, this can be due to a variety of reasons. However there’s no exact reason for this reason. Sometimes it can be due to virus problems, too many startup items, etc. Lets see how to speed up the PC.
Reduce startup items:
Your PC can become slow if many processes are running from the starting of your PC. So reduce some of the startup items. Click on Start >> Run, type msconfig. Now go to startup & services tab and remove programs which you don’t use much.
Defragment your HD:
Fragmentation occurs. Imagine a cupboard which you use everyday but you never arange anything in it. Thats what happen in PC also. Suppose you install one software, then one file would be here and another file would be there, so the head of the hard disk has to search all the files everytime that software runs. Therefore this decreases the speed of the computer. Right click on your Drive from “My Computer” and click on Properties. In “Tools” tab, there would be “Defragment”, click on it and defragment the drive. Atleast defragment your all drives once in two weeks.
Remove viruses & other malicious softwares:
Many times, your PC has virus and you don’t even know it. Yes, this happens. Therefore regular scanning of your all drives is advisable. And I am not just talking about viruses, there are spywares also. So, scan with a good antispyware program also. Inshort, regularly scan your PC with an antivirus and antispyware program.
Increase RAM:
If we are talking about increasing the speed of the computer, then how can we forget RAM. Nowadays RAM’s are dirt cheap. 1 GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM costs around 700 Rs (14 $). This price is for desktop PC’s RAM. I recommend minimum 1 GB RAM for normal use, and if you are a hardcore or an enthusiast, then go for minimum 2 GB RAM. You can also purchase a 2 GB stick directly, no need for purchasing 2 sticks of 1 GB RAM.
Clean your registry:
Yes, cleaning of your invalid registry entries is also very important. Use a program like Ccleaner, to clean invalid registry entries. Cleaning of unnecessary registry entries is also very important, because sometimes the PC becomes slow because of this. I recommend you to use a program like Ccleaner. Download it from here.
These were some basic steps that you should perform, incase you think that your PC is running too slow nowadays. Due to driver or file conflicts also your PC can run slow in some cases. In this circumstances, format and reinstall Windows. But this should only be your last step.
