So here comes Ubuntu 11.04 codenamed as “Natty Narwhal”. With the release of this new version, comes many changes, like improved Graphical User Interface, and addition of new functionalities.
Ubuntu 11.04 is the second standard release after the latest Long Term Support (LTS) edition of Ubuntu, version 10.04 LTS. This is based on the new 126.96.36.199 Linux kernel.
So now let’s take a look at the new features of Ubuntu 11.04:
You can open the Dash by clicking on the Ubuntu logo in the top-left corner of the screen. The Dash is a fast way to access various applications. You can search for any application, and start it easily. Thus, this makes quick access to email, pictures, music, and much more. Call it as a Search feature or Run feature in Windows. Shortcut for this is, Super or Windows key.
Now its really easy to browse between various applications and Windows. Just click on Workspace icon in the launcher and all active applications/services will pop up. From here you can click on any window to make it active.
The all new Launcher:
The all new Unity Launcher is made up of a dock. This dock sits on the left hand side of the screen, and basically it contains all the shortcuts. You can also add new applications, or shortcuts to this dock, and then after you can launch it by clicking on that icon. This makes accessing shortcuts too easy. This is infact, a very good move. If there are many icons in this dock, then it will automatically become scrollable, when the mouse pointer moves over it. Yes, you can also drag and drop files here. Add/remove applications, browse bookmarks or keep track of open applications.
